About this event:
On Saturday, March 30 the Glastonbury charity Yeast Scrapstore are hosting a unique all-day event at the Town Hall as part of their support from the current Mayor of Glastonbury
The Great Scrapstore Challenge kicks off at 10am, and children between 3-12 will be able to make fantastical hats, masks and costumes from upcycled and reused materials for £2 per make. The day will culminate in the young fashionistas showing off their creations in a fun fashion show at 4pm, and there will be prizes for the best makes in a range of categories. Throughout the day people will also be able to browse stalls selling upcycled and reused items.
On the evening of the same day at 7pm there will be a fashion show with outfits made from reused and upcycled materials, and local clothing businesses and charity shops. Challenge cups are up for grabs in several categories and there will even be an overall prize of £100 for the best entry.
Individual competition entries for the show will cost £5, and if you don’t get time to make your own outfit before the day then there will be an opportunity to make one in the town hall during the day. Tickets for the evening are on sale for £6, and there will also be live music and a bar, too.
The Mayor of Glastonbury, Denise Abbott, says: “I am delighted that the Yeast Scrapstore are using the Town Hall to raise funds for their new outdoor space by holding this special fashion event. It will be brilliant to encourage the creation of sustainable clothing from reused and upcycled materials while raising fund for such a worthwhile cause.”
